 Buddhist Community in Cumilla & Noakhali:

Cumilla is a sacred place for ancient Buddhist civilization. The minority Buddhist community of Cumilla has been living here from the ancient period when Deva and Kharga dynasties ruled over this area. The Buddhists of Cumilla use the 'Singha' title as their surname because Buddha's childhood name was 'Shakya Singha'. 10th Sangharaj Jyotipal Mahathero and Ven. Purnananda Mahathero led the common Buddhists of this area to the way of Dhamma. So people always remember their contribution with due respect. Now the Buddhists of Cumilla are going forward by taking education. They always flourish their life following the principles of Damma. There are about 25 Buddhist temples in Cumilla which are not only centers for religion but also used for many charitable works. The Buddhist community of Cumilla believes in unity. So they always try to solve any social crisis maintaining peace and unity.
