Peeranuch Meditation Hall
Sangharaja Pandit Jyotipal Mahathero was established
Barigaon Kanakchaitya Vihara. This monastery is not an ordinary monastery. The
monastery has been playing a great role in uplifting social development since
its inception. The reason is that he had set up schools, orphanages, and
multipurpose social development projects around this monastery. Needless to
say, not only Buddhists but also Hindus, Muslims, and many poor and meritorious
students have been educated from this institution and many of them have got the
opportunity to have a good position in the society and now some of them are
also high ranking government officials. The people of the society at once
admitted that he had done the structural work with his direct involvement with
the support of local people as the economic situation was so weak. At that time
it was very difficult and expensive to get a rod or iron. So he built the establishments with a combination of bamboo and rod. The main monastery at
Barigaon had a high dome (Chetiya) on the roof and the ground floor was used
for worship in the morning and evening.
As the
original monastery was built several decades ago, it was in a position to
collapse at any time. So, it was demolished due to security reasons. After
that, for a long time, religious activities were carried out by keeping the
Buddha statue in the dining room. Due to a lack of funds, the villagers are not
able to build a new monastery. Ven. Sugato Bhikkhu, he passed his secondary
school from this institution and lived from a young age. And later moved to
Chittagong in the vicinity of Sangharaja. He could no longer bear this
miserable condition of Barigaon Vihara and started rebuilding. He then rebuilt
the monastery on a large scale with the funding of his Thai devotees. The
Peeranuch Meditation Hall is named by his devotees.
